Description

Hmm this took me.... too long. All day. Too much stippling, my head hurts.
Someway while doing it I realized it looked a bit like Socar's stuff. Just a little. I guess that's my influence then.

Great work, Sam, her hair is stunning, the intricate details and the sepia tones give the pic an old worldly kinda feel, Love it! :)

This does have a classic feel to it... and shows emormous potential. But one day is not 'too long' to spend on a finished drawing...pace yourself, give yourself time not just to 'draw' your subjects but to 'live' with them a little longer. Even if you consider something finished...wait a while, then come back to it...you'll see it with fresh eyes, spot mistakes you may not have noticed before (because your head hurt from the stippling) or see where there might be room for improvemnet.

As it is this is one of the nicest pieces you've posted...but I'd love to see what you could do if you REALLY applied yourself and spent a week or so on a piece.

Zero references were used, so no, I didn't use my face. It was done mostly at school so by the time I got home I was mostly stippling.
Thank you all so much for the compliments, it brings me happiness... I appreciate it.
Kaduflyer- This is my great downfall... impatience. I wish I had more. Luckily I work quickly enough I actually complete things, and that's actually a lesson I learned in a previous piece (African Mystery). With stippling in particular, it helps to leave it then go back and the effect enhances so much. I may yet go back... I'm always telling myself this, it's good to have it reinforced. Also I took immediate notice to you critiquing me. I really enjoyed your website and your work.
Cigaro- lol! This was funny, I was done, so exhausted from stippling, I signed it, then almost burst into tears from being so exhausted and then feeling like id "ruined it" by thoughtlessly signing it in the middle instead of the corner. I kept asking my boyfriend if it looked bad, and he kept trying to tell me it was okay. I try to ignore the signature, maybe I'll digitally move it (but probably not).

Argh! Again those pointed ears, just because they are en vogue.

Besides that a lovely picture with a wonderful vintage feeling. (thumbup)

Avatar Squeaky

You can make ears bigger without making them look stupid, when they are pointed. And bigger ears means more earrings. Here I did specifically what I did with the ears for the reason of the earrings I wanted to put, usually my mermaids have varying ears. Just one thing thats easy to play around with, shape-wise.
